Lazarus Restoration Ministries, Inc. (LRM) is a non-profit faith-based community outreach program. Its purpose is to identify families who are currently homeless and assist them in making a successful transition back into mainstream society on a self-supporting, self-sustaining basis. LRM does this by providing homeless families with much-needed resources, information, and hands-on help. Participants undergo required training, counseling and activities which serve as tools necessary to facilitate their successful transition. These are called "benefit services." The children of these families also participate in required activities, trainings, and counseling necessary to help ensure their present and future personal, academic and economic success.
On any given night, there are over 1,000 homeless children and adults in Gainesville. These families struggle to satisfy their basic economic needs for food, shelter, clothing, and success. This struggle is a daily one and is often so tragic that it leaves them with little hope of ever again becoming productive, self-supporting citizens. Some homeless children endure the atmosphere of local shelters, while others are left wandering the streets, some with parents and others alone, during the day and night hours. They are at risk of educational failure, delinquency and violence. Those children who reside inside a shelter have a temporary place to stay, but often lack self-esteem and know little about the mainstream culture that other more fortunate children take for granted.
This is why LRM is committed to winning the fight against homelessness in our community. Working together with churches, businesses, organizations, and individual sponsors, we endeavor to do just that!
